Magic moments

Hello there!

Net weer een nieuw schilderij af, met heel veeeel laagjes & heel veel kleur. Bezorgde me weer veel 'magic moments' bij het maken ervan!
Just finished a new painting, with looooots of layers & lots of color. The making of it gave me a lot of magic moments!

I took some pictures along the way:

I used text from an old Shakespeare book, lots of gesso, acrylic paints, lots of tissue paper for making structure, crayons, rub-ons, & words from a magazine :)

Tekenen op porcelein/ drawing on porcelain

Hi there!

Heb mezelf een paar nieuwe porceleinstiften cadeau gedaan, ziehier mijn eerste 'zentangle' koffiekopje! Nu zal de koffie nog lekkerder smaken :)
I bought myself a present: a couple of porcelain markers, and here's my first 'zentangle' coffee cup! My morning coffee wil taste even better now :)

Echt leuk, deze stiften (van Panduro); ze werken heel fijn, na het tekenen kun je het voorwerp 'afbakken' in een gewone oven en daardoor wordt het afwasbestendig (zelfs voor de vaatwasser, al zal ik dat toch niet gauw doen denk ik...
They're really nice to work with, these markers; after the drawing you can bake your item in a normal oven, what makes it washable.

Postcards

Hi there,

I've also been making some big A3 painted papers; I will cut them into 10x15 cm pieces who will then serve as postcard backgrounds.

The elephant and the spider

Hi all!

Nog een zwart-witte doodle af, getiteld 'the elephant and the spider'. Zelfde werkwijze als de doodle van gisteren:
Finished another black and white doodle, titled 'the elephant and the spider'. Same procedure as yesterday's doodle:

1)wat je nodig hebt is een stukje tekenpapier (ik gebruik 240gr Fabriano, maat tekening 15x20 cm) , een fineliner, indische inkt & een fijne penseel /
What you need is a piece of drawing paper ( I used 240gr Fabriano , size of my drawing 15x20 cm), a fineliner, black ink and a small brush

2) Maak met de fineliner een doodle in 1 keer, zonder je pen van het papier te halen, waarbij je eindigt op je beginpunt; probeer te variëren in soort doodles/
Draw a oneline doodle with your fineliner, wihout lifting your pen from the paper, ending at the same place where you began:

3) Gebruik je penseel om de randen en sommige delen binnenin te kleuren met zwarte inkt/
Use your brush to color in the borders and some pieces in the middle with black ink

4)Vul dan je doodle in met zentangles/ doodles, gebruik makend van je fineliner en hier en daar meer inkt; misschien komt er hier of daar een gek beestje 'tevoorschijn' (zoals ik in mijn tekening echt niet om de olifant heenkon aan de onderkant..)
Then fill in the doodle to your liking , using fineliner and perhaps some more ink, with zentangles & doodles. Maybe here and there funny creatures start to emerge (like in mine, I just couldn't ignore the elephant at the bottom..)

Doodle games

Hello there!

Had ooit een leuke video tutorial gezien, van Diana Trout, over het maken van doodles. Was het eigenlijk vergeten,tot ik het vandaag weer 'n keer tegenkwam. Wat me inspireerde tot het maken van deze doodle :)

I saw this video once, made by Diana Trout, in which she gives a tutorial about making doodles. I had forgotten about it, and suddenly ran into it again today. It inspired me to making this doodle:)

Here are some 'the making of' pictures, of my doodle:

Starting with one continuous line (no ccrossing lines anywhere) and then filling the borders with black ink

and then the rest :)

Fun to be working in just black and white once more.

Heb lekker de hele dag geschilderd. Best groot doek voor mijn doen, 30x30cm. Met heel veel laagjes & structuur.:
Been painting most of the day, yess!! A large canvas, for me, it's 30x30cm. Lots of layers & structure:

I've used one of my handmade stamps with silver ink for the sides.

I'm quite happy with how this one turned out :)

Lost in art land...

Hi all!

Een maand geleden alweer sinds ik hier was! De tijd vliegt! Druk geweest met van alles ( onder andere, of het meest eigenlijk, met een eindexamen-doende dochter). Heb in de tussentijd ook niet heel veel kunstzinnigs gedaan. Maar wel een paar leuke dingen nog gemaakt:
It's been a whole month since I've been here on my blog! Time flies! Been busy with lots of things ( most of all I guess with a daughter doing her high school finals..) Haven't made a lot of artsy stuff lately, but managed to do a couple of fun things:

Nadat ik met de kaarten bezig was geweest kwam ik opeens terecht in één van die (jekentzewel) buien zonder inspiratie, wanneer alles wat je maakt er niet uitziet zoals je wilt (er eigenlijk gewoon niet uitziet haha)
After making those cards I just fell into a sort of non-inspirational mood, you know the ones... when suddenly you feel kinda lost in art land and nothing you make comes out right any more.

So I guess I had to learn some art lessons again ( not that I didn't already know all that, but sometimes you just realize how it is):

1. what you make is not always beautiful.
Re-write that: what you make does not always néed to be beautiful.
Just make lots and lots of art, try out new things, sometimes it turns out just right, and sometimes it doesn't. That's the way it is.
2. art making is apparently also subject to a sort of cycle: sometimes for days you're in an absolute art making flow; everything you touch turns out right, you have fun. And then there are days (or more) when nothing works & the colors don't speak to you at all.
Solution? Do something completely different: go clean the house or take a long walk with the dog, cook a nice meal...but take an 'art break'. Inspiration wíll return :)
3. you need to experiment, try out new materials, new ideas. If not, you'll get stuck in doing the same things over and over & never learn anything new. And experimenting means: make mistakes!

Anyway, one of those days I started out with these:

which are still not exactly to my liking but okay.....I'll leave them like this now :) :)

Het goeie is, dat ik nu opeens weer mijn 'ouwe' acrylverf heb herontdekt; al te lang niets mee gedaan. Dus ik ga lekker door met verf & collage en de inspiratie komt langzaamaan weer terug :)
The good thing is: I've sort of rediscovered my good old acrylics again; haven't used them for too long. So I'll just keep on splashing paint around & collaging & stuff. INspiration's slowly coming back ;) :)
